As I’m sure you can guess by looking at our before and after page this project is costing us significant sums of money and a lot of willpower. I happened to be wandering the world wide web the other day and came across this interactive piece by MoneySupermarket regarding the story of the pound coin which turned 30 in April 2013 – I’m older than the pound coin in case you are wondering!
There’s a cracking little section in it that shows things that have been bought for a pound.
Turns out that Perrott’s Folly, which is said to have inspired J.R.R Tolkien to write Lord of the Rings sold recently for £1.
I could have bought the tower from Lord of The Rings! My inner uber-geek is kicking me very hard. I’m consoling myself with the fact that once we eventually finish our renovation I’ll be able to re-watch the entire Lord of the Rings series on our new entertainment centre.
Equally impressive and depressing is the fact that in the time it has taken me to write this post, David Beckham has earned a ridiculous amount of money – £709. Nice money if you can get it.
